Irmy Henny Marie (Schubert-Schröder) Haugen

Irmy Haugen, 95, of Warren, MN, left this life and went to join her son and husband in a Wonderful Place on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Irmy Henny Marie Schubert-Schröder was born on June 22, 1929, in Bremen, Germany. Raised in wartime, Irmy may have seen the troubles firsthand but learned compassion, gratitude, and faithfulness as a result. One might say her life truly “started” when she met an American soldier, Myron Haugen. It was love at first sight. They courted for three months before he was ordered back to the States and she waited patiently for two years while he saved to bring her “home,” relying only on their letters in the meantime.

On September 23, 1948, Irmy was married to Myron in the Concordia Lutheran Church parsonage in Fertile, MN, and they made their home in Grand Forks, ND. They raised their growing family in Litchfield, MN, Dassel, MN, and Devils Lake, ND. In 1970, Irmy and Myron made a leap of faith, selling the family's home and investing everything into their new business, Nordic Fiberglass. In those years, Irmy and Myron shared a desk, worked side-by-side, and raised the children in both home and office. They worked remarkably hard, but their children remember a house full of music, flowers, and love. Irmy and Myron moved Nordic's main office to Warren, MN in November 1986. When their son Greg died on April 21, 1989, Irmy and Myron channeled their grief into their work at Nordic. Greg's loss was never far from their hearts.

Nature helped heal some of the wounds of life. Along with the fifty pet chickens in early years, Irmy helped tend dogs, cats, raccoons, wild birds, and even a skunk. Her home outside Warren was a refuge for all of God's creatures, many of whom appeared at Irmy's last week, we believe, to say goodbye. Irmy enjoyed painting, gardening, and traveling; and if she could do it alongside Myron all the better. They were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren for 40 years. She adored a cup of coffee with family or friends, sharing a story with someone she cared for, or simply telling them the truth: she loved them all deeply.
When she said it, you knew it was true.

Missing her more than words can say are her daughters, Carol Stabenow of Stillwater, MN, Patricia and Paul Gust of Eagan, MN, Nancy Haugen of Stillwater, Linda and Tim Conely, and Susan and Dave Haugen-Sumner both of Warren; sister. Elfi Böttger, Bremen, Germany; grandchildren, Matt and Nate Stabenow, Alexander and Zachary Gust, Christopher and Jesse Bodell, Kristen (Tom Peterson) Andrzejewski, Jen Conely, Casey and Samantha Conely, and Miranda (Bryan Johnson) Sumner; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brody, Jayda, Scarlett, Amora, Stanley, and Olive; siblings-in-law, Yvonne Nelson, Howard and Elizabeth Haugen, and Erman Ueland; her “Dream Team” caregivers, Brad Lorenson, Stacey Wentz, and Heather Goroski; and her beloved Dover and Lily.

There to greet our sunshine is her beloved husband, Myron (d. July 14, 2016) and son, Greg; her parents, Wilhelm and Helene; son-in-law, Mark Stabenow; Myron's parents, Helmer and Bergjliot; siblings-in-law, Luverne and Bill Swanson, Gene and Irene Haugen, Beverly and David Duckstad, Betty Ueland, Lois and Dale Bauer, and Lyle Nelson.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Warren, MN.
VISITATION: Monday evening, May 5, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM; with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM; in the church; and one hour prior to the funeral.
INTERMENT: Between Myron and Greg in Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.
