Jack Sedlacek, 87, lifelong resident of Warren, MN, died on April 27, 2022, in North Star Manor, while under care of hospice with his family at his side.
John Richard Sedlacek was born on December 6, 1934, in Warren, to John Henry and Willo Irene (Engelstad) Sedlacek. Called “Jack” from childhood, he was raised in Radium, MN, and grew up on the family farm, graduating from Warren High School in 1952. He always had a knack for making rusty old farm equipment work, and in the following years, Jack put this to use at the Marshall Co. Co-op as a mechanic. Later he was a truck driver for the Warren Creamery, stacking 10-gallon milk cans by hand; drove the local school bus; and also worked full time on the family farm. On June 14, 1959, Jack was married to Delores M. Anderson, in Vega Lutheran Church, rural Warren.
In the early 1960's, Jack began working as a city policeman. Over the next several decades, Jack worked the night shift for the city police, drove the school bus, went home for a brief nap, then worked the rest of the day on the farm in Radium. Jack was a hard-working man and as a policeman he was firm but generous. He preferred to connect-with and lecture a lawbreaker, sending them home to tell a parent as punishment, rather than give a ticket. In the mid 1980s Jack was made Chief of Police. After almost 30 years on the force, he retired in 1991. Jack kept himself busy continuing to farm, watching the weather, and driving around the countryside “surveying” local crops. He always enjoyed old time music. Jack was proud of his three children serving in the military. He and Delores enjoyed traveling to the bases they were stationed at including Delaware, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Washington, Alaska and places in between.
He was a former member of the Warren Volunteer Ambulance Corps., the Warren Lion's Club, and the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association. He was a lifelong worshiper in Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Warren.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Delores; three children, David (Celene) Sedlacek of Baxter, MN, Darin (Lisa) Sedlacek of O'Fallon, IL, and Jolynn (Rodney) Roy of Casper, WY; grandchildren, Andrea (Travis) Snyder and Jared Sedlacek, Ryan and Erin Sedlacek, and Jessica and Garrett “Claire” Roy; brother-in-law, Clair Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Orianne and brother-in-law, Alden Hylland; sister-in-law, Carol J. Reynolds; and a black cat named “Mic.”
