Judith "Judy" Nelson

Judith Colleen Nelson, 79, of Oslo, MN, lost her battle with cancer on November 3, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Judy was born on September 24, 1942 in Lawton, ND, to John and Sanna Bredeson. She moved from her family farm in Lawton to Park River, ND during high school. After graduating from Park River High School in 1960, she attended North Dakota State University and graduated with a Home Economics degree in 1964. Following her college education, Judy began teaching Home Economics in Oslo where she met her husband, Wayne Nelson. They were married on June 25, 1965 at Zion Lutheran Church and made their home on the Nelson family farm. Judy taught at the high school for five years and then devoted her life to raising her family.

She was very active at Zion Lutheran Church serving on the Church Board and being part of Ladies Aide. She made several close friends in her Faith Circle.

Judy shared her love for others by cooking for them. She was never happier then when she was in the kitchen. She was also known for her meticulous and beautiful sewing skills. Her favorite place to be was her lake home on Red Lake. She had several fond memories there with her family and special friend, Vonnie Bergman.

Judy is survived by her husband, Wayne Nelson; children, Mark (Stacy) Nelson, Kara (Tim) Pitchford, and Paula (Craig) Nelson; grandchildren, Jacob (Katie) Pitchford, Erik Pitchford, Anna Pitchford, Dane Nelson, Kjersten Nelson, Ally Nelson, and Kate Nelson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sanna Bredeson; and siblings, Lucille Jasmer, Allen “Bud” Bredeson, Vernon Bredeson, Earl Bredeson, and Avis Haug.

A special thank you to sister-in-law, Ilene Sherlock, and the staff at Altru Cancer Center for the special care given to Judy.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oslo, MN

VISITATION: One hour before services at the church.

INTERMENT: Oak Park Lutheran Cemetery, rural Oslo, MN
