June Benson, 81, of Grand Forks, died on Saturday, November 9, 2019, in Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, with her loving husband at her side.
June Ann LaBine was born on August 30, 1938, on the family farm which was just far enough north of Argyle to be in Stephen, MN. One of the four children of Edgar and Alice (Laurin) LaBine, June attended school in Argyle, graduating in the class of 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, Douglas L. Benson, on December 31, 1957. Many said they were too young and that it wouldn't last: the two kept their vows until the end and never let a quarrel in religion come between them.
Following the wedding, June traveled the country and the world while Douglas served as a US Army Paratrooper. She lived in Germany (where their first son was born), Kentucky, Louisiana, and other states. June and Doug had three more children and eventually landed back in Argyle, where June managed a very busy household.
She was active in her church and always had a hard time saying “no” when volunteers were needed. After the children grew up, June worked at a number of local businesses and kept up with all her children's events. She followed UND sports all her life (Go Sioux!).
She is survived by her husband, Douglas L. Benson; children, Brenda (Eddie) Skinner, Brian (Jeanne) Benson, and Bruce Benson; daughter-in-law, Marsha Benson; grandchildren, Wyatt and Kyle Benson, Kemra (Kevin) Williams and Stacie Felix, Matthew and Stephanie Benson, and Kylie, Collin, and Katie Benson; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Beverly Fulks, Sandra Doolittle, and Kenneth LaBine; and many nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her parents; and eldest son, Brad Benson.
