Kay Selnes Dorrance

Kay Selnes Dorrance, 78, of West Fargo, ND, formerly of Alvarado, MN, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, under the care of Hospice at her home.

Kay was born on June 17, 1945 in East Grand Forks, MN, the daughter of Lee and Lorraine (Johnson) Selnes. She was raised in Alvarado, MN where she graduated from Alvarado High School in 1963. Kay attended Bernel’s College of Cosmetology. Before she retired, she worked at UND, ND Hospital Association, St. Ansgars Hospital, FM Heart Health Assn, Twin City Testing & JC Penneys.

Kay married Ken Falla in 1982 and gained 3 step-children, Greg (Deirdre) Falla, Lori (Bruce) Hanson, and Jeff (Aurora) Falla. Grandchildren, Caitlin (Elley), Ethan (Kat), Aiden, Josh (Breanne), Sarah (Mike), Matt, and Linda and Danny.

Kay married Tom Dorrance in 2013 and gained 3 more step-children, Mike (Pam) Dorrance, Fr. Theodore (Stacey) Dorrance, and Susie (Mike) Lambertson. Grandchildren, Maggie, Emma (Jordan), Jack, Sean, Michelle (Tommy), Anthony, Christiana (Michael), Athanasia (Niko), and Fotini (Richie).

She loved to go to the casino with her grandson, Caleb & best friend, Deb Grant. Kay was a great dancer, loved to sing, golf, read, and play puzzle games, Rummikube & Sequence. Her favorite place to go was Long Point on Lake of the Woods at the family cabin. She always said it was the closest place to Heaven.

Honored to treasure her memory are her daughter, Lori (Scott) Fairburn, 2 grandsons that were the loves of her life, Ken (Molly) Finke & Caleb Braun. Siblings, Wayne (Debi) Selnes, Rex (Judy) Selnes, and Joy Selnes. Godchild, Jodi (Jeffrey) Dodson. Nieces and nephews, Kati (Kyle) Christianson, Gina (William) Neely, Holli (Mike) Taff, Patti (Kevin) Cantile, Michael (Jenny) Selnes, Spencer (Patty) Selnes, Jim Yanish, Vicki (Cal) Willets, Kristi Stoffel, Tom (Rebecca) Yanish, Michelle (Rob) Brady, Michael (Marilyn) Yanish, and Amy Yanish. Brother-in-law, Charlie and Sister-in-law, Alice. Cousins, Marsha (Skip) Skattum, Wendy (Bob) Hewitt, Mary (Ken) Chisholm, and Ruthie (Gary) Sherman.

Preceded in death are her parents, husband, Tom, sister, Marcy (Selnes) Miller, uncle and aunt, Oliver and Gloria Selnes, aunt and uncle Miranda and Clayton Nelson, and grandson, Danny Falla.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado, MN.

VISITATION: One hour before services.

INTERMENT: Oak Lawn Cemetery, Alvarado, MN.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS: Memorials preferred to Wounded Warrior Project.
