LaVerne Pribula, 100, of Fertile, MN, formerly of Warren, MN, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile with her family by her side.
LaVerne Doris McGrath was born on February 23, 1925 at St. Michael's Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Arthur and Nora (Jacobson) McGrath. She grew up on a farm near Emerado, ND and graduated from Emerado High School in 1943. After high school, LaVerne moved to Grand Forks where she was employed at the AAA office and Selected Service office. On June 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to Emil Pribula at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. The young couple lived, worked and raised their family on a farm north of East Grand Forks, MN for eleven years until a tornado destroyed their home on June 30, 1955. They lived for one year in Alvarado, MN until they moved to Warren where they lived for the next twenty years. In 1976, they built a new home two miles northeast of Warren. Emil passed away on February 25, 2007. On September 7, 2008, she married Duaine Lund at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They made their home in Grand Forks where they were able to dance, play cards and enjoy stories of each of their families until the Lord called Duaine home on June 5, 2011. In 2013, she moved to Fertile to be closer to family.
She was a stay-at-home mom. LaVerne never attended college but received degrees from her family in management, nursing, cooking, baking, painting, seamstressing, accounting, barbering, counselor, gardening, arbitrator and grain truck driving to name a few. She put together four genealogy books for the McGrath and Pribula families.
LaVerne was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Warren and later at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks.
She is survived by her children, Donn Pribula of Halstad, MN, Curtis (Anna) Pribula of Fridley, MN, Janette (Arthur) Gil de Lamadrid of Superior, WI, Elizabeth (Howard) Haugen of Fertile, MN, Joanne (Michael) Cook of Hawley, MN, David (Rebecca) Pribula of West Fargo, ND and Mark Pribula of Minneapolis, MN; daughters-in-law, Kathy Pribula-Schumacher of Mesa, AZ and Peggy Pribula of Thompson, ND; son-in-law, Joseph Tulibaski of Argyle, MN; twenty-three grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and one due in July; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Emil and Duaine; sons, Patrick, Howard and Francis; infant daughter, Mary; daughter, Colleen Tulibaski; son-in-law, David Schumacher; brothers, Leo, Donald, and Duane McGrath and sisters, Margaret Werstlein, Dorothy Pribula and Lucille Vasek.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Warren, MN.
VISITATION: One hour before services at the church.
INTERMENT: Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Warren, MN
