Laurie Evin Obituary

Laurie Evin, 75, of Warren, MN, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in North Valley Health Center.

Laurie Anne Capes was born on October 16, 1949, in Grand Forks, ND, to Robert and Mary (Hart) Capes. Raised in Grand Forks, she attended Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1967. As a young mother and homemaker, Laurie Mitchell's goal was to instill good manners and character in her three children. She had an open-door policy in her house that never closed. In 1978, she was set up on a blind fishing date with Gale Evin. When you know you know! and they were married a month later on August 7, 1978, at the Marshall Co. Courthouse.

For 47 years, Gale and Laurie raised, loved, and housed their kids (+ inherited kids & inherited grandkids), and then cherished and looked after their own grandkids when the time came. During Gale's 34 years as a truck driver, Laurie spent countless hours on the road with him, often riding along for a significant portion of that time.

Having what you might call an “endless ear,” Laurie was a good listener and always seemed to be able to ask you the one helpful question you might not have asked yourself. She had a heart big enough for just about everybody, and that open-door policy remained at the heart of her life's work.

She leaves behind three rules that served her well:

Never leave (or hang up the phone) without saying “I Love You.”

Never miss an opportunity to show kindness to a child.

If you wouldn't like it done to you, don't do it to someone else.

Remembering the life of Laurie are her husband, Gale; two children [formerly surnamed “Mitchell”], Julie (Mike) Thielsen, and Robert “Bob” (fiancee, Michelle Kruger) Charboneau; siblings, Tom (Nancy) Capes, Rosemary Capes, Jim (Kathy) Capes, and Roberta (Steve) Arndt; grandchildren, Rex, Shaye, Jasper, Ashley, and Robbie; inherited children, Denise, Cassandra, Desiree, and Amanda; and inherited grandchildren, Brielle, Nikolia, Brett, and Gaige; sisters-in-law, Sue Mola, and Lynn (David) Sinn; and brother-in-law, Larry (Jane) Evin.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pam Socwell; her parents, Robert & Mary, in-laws, Bennie and Dorothy Evin; and brother, John Capes.

A Family-Led Service will be held on their property: N. 1st Street in Warren, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:30 AM.
