Leona Neegard, 100, of Warren, MN, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 1, 2021 at North Star Manor in Warren.
Leona Marjorie was born on October 7, 1921 in New Solum Township, Marshall County, MN, the daughter of Arthur C. and Olga (Gustafson) Olson. She was Baptized at her grandparent's home at Holt, MN and Confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN. Leona attended country school and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1939. Following high school, she worked at several places including a lefse bakery in Thief River Falls, MN, the Lying Inn Hospital in Chicago, IL and the Warren Hospital. Leona married John Neegard on January 13, 1943. They made their home in Warren. Leona began working in the office of the Good Samaritan Center in 1961 and in 1965, she became the Administrator. When new regulations were put into place for nursing homes, Leona became a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator by taking an exam by the State of Minnesota. She continued to work at the nursing home until she retired in 1983. During her time at the nursing home, she oversaw the construction of new 102 bed nursing home. John died on January 30, 1986.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was active teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir and was in WELCA and various Circles. Leona volunteered for many years with the Bible Study for the ODC. She was also a member of the Busy Bee Homemakers, Warren Hospital and Home Auxiliary and the Warren Senior Citizens where she held offices for many years.
Leona enjoyed playing Scrabble, Bridge and other card games and getting phone calls from family and friends. She loved to travel and visited many places in the United States as well as Norway.
Left to mourn her passing are two children, Gary Neegard of Brooklyn Park, MN and Patricia Anderson of Saint Peters, MO; grandchildren, Kirk Anderson and Kristen (Keith) Loeffler; great-grandchildren, Erika (Brandon) Newton and Clayton Anderson; great-great-grandchildren, Navy and Cree Newton and twelve nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sister, Clarice (Ray) Bren and brother Alvin (Dorothy) Olson.
The family would like to thank all the people at North Star Senior Apartments, North Star Assisted Living, North Star Manor and the North Valley Health Center who cared so skillfully and kindly cared for Leona, especially Cindy Neegard Goulet, ChrisAnn Abrahamson and Jennifer Olson (who recently passed away).
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren, MN.
INTERMENT: Graveside services were previously held at Greenwood Cemetery in Warren, MN on Friday, December 3, 2021.
