Loretta Kostrzewski, 97, of Argyle, MN, died on Thursday, October 1, 2020, in Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, MN.
Loretta Pokrzywinski was born on July 23, 1923, in Warsaw ND, the third oldest of eleven children to John and Margaret (Dauksavage) Pokrzywinski. She was raised in Warsaw, attended the convent school, and worked hard from a young age. She always loved music and was self-taught on the piano and accordion. It was after a move to Argyle that she was united in Holy Matrimony to Roman Kostrzewski, on January 4, 1944. They made their home in Argyle and the two raised four girls.
In addition to taking care of the house and children, Loretta worked seasonally picking potatoes. She later worked for the group home in Argyle for 16 years, helping with relief aid and keeping the staff and residents well-fed and cared-for. Loretta always kept a large garden at home, full of flowers and vegetables. In her early years, she grew and canned so much that the family rarely had to go grocery shopping. All of her adult life was spent attending Mass at St. Rose Catholic Church, in Argyle and she will be remembered for her great faith.
Loretta is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Bill) Riopelle of Argyle, Diane (Gary) Fossum of Thief River Falls, Debra (John) Cuthbert of Oshkosh, WI, and Doreen (Harland) Owens of Corinth, TX; four grandchildren, Terry (Melissa) Knutson, Chris, Kelly (Jana) Fossum, and Jackie Fossum; sister, Geraldine (Raphael) Topka; three great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Roman, who died in March of 1982; Loretta was preceded in death by the rest of her siblings, Julian, Alice, Sarah, Dorothy, Alex, Peter, Chester, Leonard, and Louis.
