Lorraine A. Hess

Lorraine Hess, 84, of Warren, died on Friday, March 13, 2020, in North Star Manor, Warren, MN, under care of hospice.

Lorraine Agnes Micken was born on September 16, 1935, to William and Viona (Crozier) Micken in Spooner, WI. She grew up in Lampson, WI, and graduated from Spooner High School. Lorraine moved to Minneapolis to find work, and on February 2, 1957, Lorraine eloped and was united in marriage with returning veteran, LeWayne “Lee” Hess. The two made a happy home together in Minneapolis and were blessed with three children.

The family moved to Hopkins, MN, where Lorraine stayed home with the children. When they got older, she went to work at Northwest Bank in the bookkeeping and records department for many years. When she and Lee retired, they moved to Walker, MN, and lived on Leech Lake. She enjoyed having her children and grandchildren come to visit and go fishing together. Another move brought them to Albertville, MN, and finally to Warren, MN, where they lived in North Star Manor until Lee passed away in 2016.

Lorraine loved to read, fish, work in her garden, and spend time with the grandchildren. She also coached little league baseball one year when her youngest son's team needed a coach. Despite knowing little about the sport, she stepped up when no one else would volunteer. She always had a caring heart and would reach out to help others. In the many times she moved, she would find a church to attend and participate in some way.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Doug (Barb) Hess of Warren, and Denise (Tom) Moser of Beaverton, OR; grandchildren, Samuel (Channyn) Hess, Katrina (Nathaniel) Johnson, Jonathan Hess, and Lisa (Scott) Popelka; great-grandchildren, Cayllie and Declan; sisters, Evelyn, Kathy, and Rita; brother, Bill; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, Lee; Lorraine was preceded in death by her son, James Hess; sister, Virginia; and grandchild, Lauri Lee.

INTERMENT: Next to her husband, Lee, in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
