Mark Johnson Obituary

Mark Johnson, 65, of Warroad, MN, was found on Friday, January 10, 2024, after passing away from natural causes in his home, his beloved dog Sophie comforting him in his last moments and remaining with him while God brought him home.

Mark was born on September 15, 1959, in Rapid City, SD, to Ermil and Audrey (Heston) Johnson. Raised around the country while his dad was in the Air Force, the family lived in Amarillo, TX, Blair, OK (where Mark started grade school), Arvilla and finally Larimore, ND. On January 31, 1975, Ermil died and Mark, his mom, and his older brother, Gary became a close-knit family of three. The two brothers kept chickens to “keep out of trouble,” and Audrey put them to the task of refinishing their entire home. His strong work ethic was built here.

Meanwhile, Mark attended school and hayed for area farmers, graduating from Larimore High School with the class of 1977. He attending tech school in Wahpeton, ND, for auto and mechanics. He took a job with Don Fuillerat Sr. and Jr., custom combining from Manitoba down to Texas for the next decade. In the winter months, Mark returned to school in East Grand Forks AVTI for diesel mechanics. When Don Sr. died, Mark began his 35+ year career with Marvin Windows of Warroad. When his mother began to decline, Mark was keen on helping her maintain her home in Grafton, willing to do whatever might be needed.

More than most, Mark was a creature of habit. He woke up at the same time every day for the early shift at Marvins, sometimes the first to arrive and always the last to leave (so as to not deal with the “rush” home). He carried a thermos of coffee with him all day. He kept his yard and small garden with meticulous care. He enjoyed listening to the radio and keeping up on world news despite preferring to stay at home. He was a simple man who loved a few others very much and President Joe Biden not at all. He spoiled his dog and carried her practically everywhere they went.

He is survived by his brother, Gary “Chick” (Julie) Johnson and their daughter, Starr; aunts, Anita Solem, Barb Heston, and Betty Larson; uncles, Lindley (Betty) Johnson, Glenn (Jessie) Larson, Larry Johnson.

Awaiting his coming home are his parents, Ermil and Audrey; uncles, Roger Heston, Don Feuillerat Sr., Sigvold Larson, and Lloyd Larson; and many other relatives.

The Johnsons would like to specially thank the Roseau County Sheriffs Office for their hard work and thoughtfulness at Mark's home after his passing.
