Michael "Mike" Baird

Michael “Mike” Baird, 72, of Warren, MN, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 18, 2021 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND with his family by his side.

Michael Alan Baird was born in June of 1948 in Warren, MN, the son of Clifford and Eileen (Myrfield) Baird. He was a lifelong resident of Warren where he graduated from Warren High School in 1966. For his senior class trip, he went to San Diego, CA for basic training in the US Navy. Michael proudly served as an aviation electronics technician from 1966 – 1970 and was deployed during the Vietnam War on a number of aircraft carriers, including the USS Constellation. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Warren where he farmed and enjoyed raising cattle and quarter horses.  In June of 2012, Michael married Kaye Smidt.

He was active in his community as a 50 year member of the Warren American Legion Post #27 serving as Commander three times, a lifetime member of the VFW, 39 year member of the Warren Volunteer Ambulance Corps., member of the Stephen Masons and Kem Temple Shriners, Marshall County Historical Society and the Marshall County Mounted Posse.

Mike enjoyed life and was known for his one liners. In his younger days, he played softball for the Warren American Legion. He also enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and tending to his “park”.  Mike's passions were cattle, horses and dogs. He liked Saturday afternoon pinochle with friends at the Legion Club. In the last several years, Mike and Kaye enjoyed wintering in Queen Creek, AZ where their neighbors became great friends.

Survivors include his wife and friend, Kaye of Warren, MN, stepchildren, Kristi (Jason) Hillman of Warren, MN and Brian Smidt of St. Paul, MN; his mother, Eileen Baird of East Grand Forks, MN; brother, Bob (Jackie) Baird of Warren, MN; sister, Linda Giedd (John) of Grand Forks, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Baird.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at First Lutheran Church in Warren, MN.

VISITATION: One hour before services.

INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren, MN

MILITARY SERVICE BY: Warren American Legion Post #27 and Naval Honor Guard
