Michael “Moon” Moon, 62, of Oslo, MN, passed away unexpectedly on December 16, 2023 at his home.
Moon was born on September 17, 1961 in North Adams, MA, the son of Roger and Mary Anne (Southwick) Moon. He was raised in the mountain town of North Adams hunting and fishing with his dad and siblings. He spent many summers alongside the Audet family on their farm in Orwell, VT. After graduating from Drury HS, Moon served in the US Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO before returning to his hometown. He moved to North Carolina and settled in the Benson area where he worked as an HVAC technician and heavy equipment operator. Moon volunteered with many different youth sports in the community serving as a coach, umpire and big brother. In 2003, Moon met Catherine Simonson and they settled together on his farm raising Herefords, turkeys and numerous barn cats. They were married on August 1, 2015 and moved to Catherine's hometown of Oslo.
Moon enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, visits to the beach, riding his Harley and spending time in the mountains. Moon spent many hours working in the vegetable garden and preserving the fruits of his labor. He was a big part of the Bailey Crossroads community, cooking up barbeque chicken and sweet potato pies for church fundraisers. Moon welcomed his wife's students to the farm, adopting them as his own and creating a large extended family of which he was very proud.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Catherine; beloved pet, Venus Marie Moon; siblings, Dee Flicker, Melissa (Steve) Polkinghorne and Mark Moon; mother-in-law, Sandy Simonson; nieces and nephews Nathan Moon, Rebecca Moon, Mahlon (Randal) Polkinghorne and great nephews Wyatt and Wahlon Polkinghorne; along with many beloved extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Melvin Simonson.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM on Friday December 29th, 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oslo, MN with visitation one hour before services.
