Mike Wichmann Obituary

Mike Wichmann, 75, of Argyle, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, May 26, 2026, at North Valley Health Center in Warren, MN.

Michael Kenneth Wichmann was born on May 29, 1950, in Fargo, ND, the son of Kenneth and Marilyn (Mickelson) Wichmann. He was raised in Chaffee, ND, where he graduated from high school in 1968. Mike continued his education at North Dakota State University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in 1972, and later received his Master’s Degree from Bemidji State University in 1988.

Mike dedicated his life to education, teaching science at several schools throughout his career, including Michigan, ND; Barrett, MN; Lake Park, MN; and Pelican Rapids, MN. He was a favorite teacher to many of his students, some of whom won top awards at the International Science and Engineering Fair. He was honored as a Teacher of the Year at Bemidji State University, and several students credited Mike as the inspiration behind their own careers in science. On September 10, 2011, Mike was united in marriage to Jennifer Rapacz. Together, they made their home in Argyle, on West Silent Lake by Pelican Rapids, and in Weslaco, TX.

Mike truly loved life and embraced every opportunity to stay active and connected with others. He enjoyed spending time at the lake with family and friends and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Over the years, he competed in numerous running races, triathlons, and half marathons. Mike also enjoyed hiking, camping, backpacking, especially the Superior Hiking Trail, carpentry work (including building his family home), reading, especially history books, learning Spanish, playing multiple musical instruments, and traveling throughout the world.

Faith and service were also important parts of Mike’s life. He was active in Mabel’s Mexican Children’s Refuge and the Global Outreach Foundation. He served on multiple church boards, raised his children in church, led bible studies, and went on many mission trips. Mike attended several churches over the years and shared his love of music as part of the Spirit in the Sky worship team alongside his brother and cousin at churches in the area and in Texas.

Above all else, Mike’s greatest joy was his family, especially the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Jennifer; children, Paul (Danette) Wichmann and Marie (Dean) Sund; grandchildren, Lilie Sund, Parker Sund, James McCann, Violet Sund, Iris Sund, and Julia Wichmann; stepchildren, Shawn (Tina) Anderson and Dana Woinarowicz; step-grandchildren, Hunter Anderson, Trevor Anderson, Raydon Woinarowicz, Ayla Woinarowicz, and Ty Woinarowicz; brothers, Steve (Tanis) Wichmann and Tom Wichmann; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marilyn; nephew, Michael Paul Wichmann; and several aunts and uncles.
