Evangeline Teigen, 93, of Oslo, died on Thursday morning, July 18, 2024, in Valley Senior Living, Grand Forks, ND, achieving her goal of being free to “go home” to her Lord.
O. Evangeline Rokke was born on April 2, 1931, in Newfolden, MN, to Oscar and Esther (Aaneson) Rokke. She was raised on the family farm, attending country school across the road until the 8th grade. She graduated from Newfolden High School in 1949 and completed her education with a year at Aakers Business College. She was a bookkeeper for PKM. On April 4, 1953, Evangeline was married to Lyle Teigen in Bethesda Lutheran Church.
The young couple made their home on the Teigen farm in Oak Park Township, north of Oslo. There Evangeline was a full fledged homemaker, quilting, sewing, raising their two children, and cooking all the family's favorite dishes as a proud 100% Norwegian. She was active in Zion Lutheran Church where she worshiped weekly and was member of the quilters. While the kids were in school she was a teacher's aide and bookkeeper for Tinnes Insurance. Lyle died suddenly on December 11, 1985, and Evangeline continued to work, retiring in 1996 from the State School in Grafton and remaining active, cooking for the Oslo Seniors for a number of years. During the '97 flood, Evangeline kept the Nat'l Guard well fed. She earned her gold medal in 2006 beating Lung Cancer, was named Marshall County Senior Citizen, and later moved into the nursing home in 2016. Throughout it all, Evangeline kept her positive attitude and her youthful complexion (attributed to many years of Ponds Cream).
She is survived by her children, Rodney (Ann) Teigen and Rhonda Palmer; grandchildren, Ryan (Allison), Ross, Lindsey (Tony), and Ashley (Blake), Jeremy, Jessica, Jenna (Brodie), and Joshua; siblings, Bonnie (Gilman) Tinnes and Carol (Bob) Boothby; sister-in-law, Kathy Rokke; and great-grandchildren, Brody, Jax, Easton, Everly, Evan, Tristan, and Kayden.
In addition to her husband, Evangeline was preceded in death by her brothers, Orvald (Gloria), Kermit (Carol), and Dale Rokke; and sister Barbara (Leo) Grochow.
