Orva Johnson, 84, of Argyle, MN, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. She had been under the care of hospice, passing away in her home at the Marshall County Group Home.
Orva was born on January 5, 1937, in Veldt Township, Marshall County, MN, to Otto B. and Selma (Jornlin) Johnson. She was in various care settings around Minnesota all of her adult life.
In 2004, Orva came to live at the Marshall Co. Group Home in Argyle. There she made many friends and always knew how to bring a smile to those she met. She was known for her one-liners, and enjoyed making up nicknames for her caretakers (like “saw lumber,” “you across the street,” “the one with the scarf”). Orva would give them many compliments, like “best cook in the world!” or the “best bus driver in the world!” She loved telling others that they looked nice.
Always curious, Orva needed to know who was on the next shift at the home and never hesitated to ask questions to strangers like “Do you have a house?” and if they did, “Does it have an upstairs?” “Do you have a dog?”... She loved music and singing songs, especially the B-I-B-L-E song.
She was a woman of few material needs apart from coffee, lefse, and peppermint candies. Orva enjoyed working at the ODC on the weekdays. Even in the last five years, when her health began to decline, she was ever the strong-willed Scandinavian. One of her favorite sayings was “Big girls don't cry- they don't cry.”
Orva is survived by her many friends and residents at the home, and all of the loving staff- whom would like to thank all those in the community that gave Orva such loving care over the years; and one brother, Otto Johnson Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Laverne, Guy, Frances, Stanley.
