Peter A. Carlson

Peter A.Carlson, 80, went to be in the care of our Lord on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023, being surrounded by his entire family.

Peter was born in Warren MN, on August 16th, 1942.  He was raised in Argyle and graduated from Argyle High School in 1960.  He went on to graduate from St. Olaf College in 1964 where he was commissioned in the USAF.  He married Karen Wall in July of 1965 during pilot training in Del Rio Texas.  From November 1966 to July 1967 he was stationed at Ubon Thailand with the 433rd TFS flying the F4-C.  While with the Satan’s Angels he had 133 combat missions with 100 of them over North Vietnam.  He was awarded 2 Distinguished Flying Cross and 13 Air Medals.  Peter finished his Air Force career flying the C-141 for the 8th Military Airlift Squadron, McCord AFB, Washington.

Peter, Karen, and their young son Tony, moved back to Argyle where Peter took over the Argyle State Bank and served as president until retirement in 2004.  During their time in Argyle they had 2 more children, Rob and Kristin, and made it their home.  Peter and his family enjoyed spending time at Maple Lake in the summer and Peter and Karen wintering in Phoenix.  The highlight of these times is when the grandchildren, whom he cherished, would come and visit.  In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding snowmobile.

Peter loved his home town and upon moving back he served his community in many capacities.  The Commercial Club, Cemetery Board, Church Council at OSL, Lions Club, American Legion, and City Council.  During his time on the city council he was instrumental in the planning and construction of the Argyle Mall.  At the state level, Peter served on the board and as president of the MIBA.  There he worked to protect small independent banks, and MN family farms.  He was also instrumental in the passage of several farm bills.  He also served on the board of the ICBA at the national level.

Peter is survived by his wife Karen, 57 years; sister Debby Chen of Bogart GA; children Tony (Jennifer) Carlson of Phoenix AZ; Rob (Shanda) Carlson of Argyle MN; and Kristin (Chris) Jerome of Lancaster MN; grandchildren Alex, Zach, and Amanda (Garrett) Carlson; Payton and Annika Carlson; Abby (Daniel) Schwalen, Trent (Katie) Jerome, and Tea Jerome; great-grandchild Landon Schwalen.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents Reuben and Audrey Carlson, and his parents-in-law Kenneth and Virginia Wall.
