Rita Hoff

Rita Kay Hoff, 76, of Leonard, MN (formerly of Alvarado, MN) passed away on June 22, 2022 with her two daughters by her side in Whitestown, IN.

Rita Strong was born at St. Michael’s Hospital in Grand Forks, ND on March 21, 1946 to Edwin and Hilda (Anderson) Strong of rural Alvarado. She was married to Gerald Heggestuen and two daughters, Mona and Shelly, were born to that union. She owned and operated Rita’s Beauty Salon out of her home for many years. Later in life, she married Scott Hoff and together they started Alvarado Bean Company.

Rita, affectionately known by many as “Reg,” was a kind, hard-working, generous soul. Throughout her life, she loved to spend time at the family’s cabin on Clearwater Lake and made it her permanent home after Scott’s passing. In recent years, she wintered in Gulf Shores, AL with Sean and Shelly. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends. She had a special love for her grandchildren and dogs and shamelessly admitted that she “spoiled them rotten.” She also enjoyed planting flowers, playing cribbage, fishing, and traveling. Her idea of a perfect day was to wake up and watch the lake, have lunch with her family at the Side Track Tap bar (winning pull tabs was key), spend the afternoon on the pontoon listening to old country music, and wrap up the evening with a delicious dinner grilled by her sons-in-law with a glass of wine in hand.

Left to mourn her passing are two children, Mona (Dave) Schroeder of Alvarado, MN and Shelly (Sean) Anderson of Whitestown, IN; two stepchildren, Scott Hoff, Jr. of Cass Lake, MN, and Sarah (Keith) Solberg of Plummer, MN; four grandchildren, Jenna Linder (David Mortenson), Jeffrey Schroeder (Amanda Bates), Makaela (Chase) Teiken and Alexandra Hoff; two great-grandchildren, Henry Schroeder and Evelyn Schroeder, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Hilda; husband, Scott; sister, Patricia Bubb; stepson, Kelly Hoff; and her beloved dogs, Brandy, Dusty, Sally and Montana.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grand Forks Circle of Friends Humane Society.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, July 8, 2022, at 11:00 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Warren, MN.
VISITATION: One hour prior to the Service.
INTERMENT: Will be handled by her family.
