Obituary

Rudolph “Rudy” A. Kleven, 89. of Alvarado, MN, passed away on March 27, 2020, in Valley Senior Living, Grand Forks, ND, with family by his side.

Rudy was born February 11, 1931 in Oak Park Township, MN. He was the son of Ole & Della (Bjornstad) Kleven. He attended school in Alvarado and graduated from high school in 1949.

Rudy married June Louise Werpy July 14, 1957. Rudy was a US Navy Sailor from 1951-1972. He served on the USS Shenandoah, USS Piedmont, USS Holland and the USS Cascade as a foundry molder. Some of the countries visited were, Italy, Greece, Japan, Spain, Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, Hong Kong, and the Philippine Islands. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for American Crystal for 23 years, retiring in 1995.

Rudy attended New Hope Lutheran Church.

He was a member of American Legion Post 35 for 46 years. He was a Past Commander, adjutant for many years and helped at many Legion functions.

Rudy enjoyed keeping weather stats, reading, crosswords and word searches, and researching family history.

Rudolph Kleven is survived by son, Alan Kleven, of Alvarado; daughter, Doreen (Dean) Grindahl, of Grand Forks; granddaughters, Christen Grindahl, of Seattle WA, and Rachel (Andy) Orth, of Maplewood, MN; twin brother, Reuben (Marlys) Kleven, Olso, MN; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife, June Kleven; sister, Alpha Kleven; brother, Bloyd Kleven; and his parents.

 

FUNERAL SERVICE WITH MILITARY HONORS: When it is safe to gather following the lifting of COVID_19 restrictions, in New Hope Lutheran Church, Alvarado, MN.
INTERMENT: Mesopotamia Cemetery, rural Alvarado.
