Shirley Ann (Swanson) Peterson

Shirley Ann Peterson, 78, of Warren, MN, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019, in North Star Manor, Warren, MN.

Shirley Ann Swanson was born on June 5, 1941, in Thief River Falls, MN, to Linder and Lorinda (Halvorson) Swanson. She was raised in Karlstad, MN, and graduated from high school there. On March 11, 1961, Shirley was united in marriage to Korean War veteran, Donald Peterson, in First Lutheran Church, Karlstad. The two made their home in Hallock after their wedding and moved to Warren in 1966. They raised three children, Shirley staying at home with the kids until 1987, when she took a job at the nursing home in Warren. Shirley retired after 22 years of dedicated service, and was honored to receive her own care there since 2018.

Shirley's favorite pastime was simply passing-time with her family. She especially enjoyed being with her daughter, Debbie, her grandkids, and her great-granddaughter. Another highlight was playing Bingo on Saturdays with Charlotte Trower and Melissa Hamrick. She will be remembered for this great love of family and friends, and her love for the Lord.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Debbie (friend, Dennis Hudson) Peterson, and Diane (fiance, Jon Grove) Peterson; grandchildren, Courtney (friend, Jeremy Groshong) Green, and Brandon Green; great-granddaughter, Ella; siblings, Bonnie (DuWain) Aakhus, and Richard Swanson; many nieces and nephews; and her “honorary grandchildren,” Nikki Lee, Jessica Defreece, Brian (Kacey) Green, and Aaron Hanson.

In addition to her husband of 43 years, Donald, who passed away on February 9, 2005; Shirley was preceded in death by a son, David; and her parents, Linder and Lorinda Swanson.

Memorials are preferred to the Family of Shirley.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, August 3, 2019, at 2:00 PM, in Zion Lutheran Church, LCMS, Warren, MN.
VISITATION: One hour prior to services at the church.
INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.
