Susan Morgan Obituary

Susan Morgan, 74, of Warren, MN, died in her home under care of hospice on Saturday, September 14, 2024, with her family by her side.

Susan Carol Baird was born on January 19, 1950, in Warren, to William and Jeannette (Blodgett) Baird. She was raised in Warren, graduating from the local high school in 1968. From there she moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Cargill, later transferring to California with her then husband and her daughter, Sheila. Susy and family moved back to Minnesota in 1976. During her life she had a love for selling whether it was at Morgan's Furniture, on the road sales across Minnesota, North and South Dakota, or with Napa Auto. In 1993, Susy moved back home to Warren. That same year she began dating Sam Potucek- a relationship she would enjoy for the rest of her life. The two would make their home together in the country, filling it with love for each other and the several children they fostered.

In all of her years, both moving around and in Warren, Susy was a meticulous host. Her table was always set with a linen tablecloth, colorful cloth napkins, and the exact dish needed for a given meal. She maintained a large collection of crystal and she was adamant about using the “good stuff.” In addition to decorating and place setting, Susy could cook and bake to match. Nobody who ate at her house had anything out of a box or can. Her chocolate chip cookies are the stuff of legend and she made at least two pots of delicious and varying soup a week. Every meal was an occasion- and so too were most activities she planned. Even something as simple as driving “around the block” (the section) was a sort of magical adventure, seeing the ordinary as something much bigger through her eyes.

Susy had an opinion about most things. She enjoyed the finer things, her “Peter's Cottage” retreat shack, and traveling with Sheila- to London, Paris, both coasts, and elsewhere. She disliked magpies and barn swallows, noisy fans, cancer, and drinking wine from plastic cups.

She made friends wherever she went and was grateful to everyone who supported her in her final tough years.

Susy leaves behind her daughter, Sheila Morgan; longtime boyfriend, Sam Potucek; niece, Candice (Matthew) Haugen and their children [her grandchildren] Griffin, Amelia, and Evelyn; Sam's children, Jason (Jennifer) Potucek and Jacki Williams; siblings, Judy (John) McGovern, Chuck (Yvonne) Baird, and Sandy Baird; and nieces and nephews, Jill, Jason, Amy, Angie, Jeff (daughter, Sophi), and Tim.
