Ted Chwialkowski

Ted Chwialkowski, 91, of Stephen, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 1, 2023 in Woodside Village, Grand Forks, ND, with family by his side.

Ted Thomas was born on September 4, 1931, in Wanger Township, Marshall County, MN, to John C. and Mary (Gajewski) Chwialkowski. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school. Ted played baseball for the Florian (MN) team as a young man (and was a star home run hitter!). On October 14, 1952, Ted was united in Holy Matrimony to Rita Ann Borowicz in Assumption Catholic Church of Florian. The young couple made their home in Stephen, where they raised their five children. Ted enjoyed working the land and tending God's creation, being employed by Nels and Richard Hvidsten for over 40 years. Following his retirement, Ted continued to help with seasonal work. He tended his own garden and did all the yardwork into his late 80s.

Ted enjoyed playing cards and woodworking, but his favorite things all revolved around his family. From deer hunting at the family camp and spending time at the lake, to volunteering in Medora or traveling by bus with Rita, Ted loved EVERY moment with his family. And his great-grandchildren: they LOVED their PAPA.

Ted is survived by his loving bride and soulmate of 70 years, Rita; his children. Becky, Gary, Bruce (Jackie), and Keith Chwialkowski; grandchildren and their families, Adam (Shonda) [AJ & Hope] Chwialkowski, Peter (LaNei) [Rylee, Reese, & Ryen] Chwialkowski, Emily (Scott) [Jack & Liv] Johnson, Maria (Josh) [Maggie & Hattie] Lunak, and Grace Chwialkowski; brother-in-law, Gene Anderson; many nieces and nephews; and Rita's extended family whom he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Wanda; his parents; brother, Conrad; and sisters, Eleanor Chapman, Phyllis Anderson, and Janet Oistad.

Ted was generous of heart, constant of faith, and overflowing with love.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Friday, March 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM, in St. Stephen Catholic Church, Stephen, MN.
VISITATION: Before the Funeral Mass, starting at 9:30 AM, in the Church.
INTERMENT: St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery, Stephen, MN.
