Thomas E. Rogus, 76, of Florian, MN, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in Altru Hospital.
Thomas Edward was born on February 25, 1947, in Warren, MN, to Edward and Joan (Kuznia) Rogus. He was raised on the family farm near Florian and graduated from Stephen High School in 1965. While attending UND he enlisted in the US Army. Serving his country from 1967-1970, Tom was deployed to Vietnam. The lessons he learned in the service were life changing. From being lost and alone in the jungle for two days, to seeing how people live in other parts of the world, Tom came home grateful and invigorated to do God's will.
Upon his honorable discharge, Tom moved to Minneapolis and enrolled in Dunwoody College. Upon completion of Dunwoody and after each work day he started the concept in his garage that would later be called “Terog Manufacturing.” One evening he got roped into going to a dance where he met his wife. They got married on October 13, 1973, in International Falls and returned to the Cities. In 1974, they moved to Marshall County, where Tom continued his business. Over the years as Terog grew, Tom used it as a force for good. He loved making improvements, inventing, and solving problems while always evangelizing for the Truth that he knew and loved. He was so happy to return to the Polish church of his childhood, teach CCD, and write inspirational articles meanwhile always adding names to his prayer list.
Tom had a deep faith in the mercy of God, in His son, Jesus Christ and our Blessed Mother Mary. His work and leisure put him in touch with many people. He enjoyed competitive shooting, golfing, hunting, and improving on his health while taking care of others. He made friends with strangers wherever he went, and always had a faith filled book ready to give away to someone he hoped to inspire. Tom constantly strove to become the best version of himself. He loved visiting, being with his family, praying the rosary, and playing cards- especially turning up the Black Ace after which he named his parts.
No matter the legacy in business, faith, and family that he leaves behind, please pray for Tom's soul and ask of his prayers in return.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Venita; five children, Ted (Juliet) Rogus of Stephen, Julie (KJ) Liebl of West Lakeland, MN, Cindy (Mike) Paulick of Castle Rock, CO, Jim (Amanda) Rogus and Joe Rogus of Strandquist, MN (with Kristin Osowski of Grand Forks, ND); ten grandchildren, Ariana, Joseph, Michaela, and Emma, Orion, Skylar, and Sean, and Hayden, Ty, and Eva; and siblings, Rudolph Rogus of East Grand Forks, and Theresa Cochran of Ft. Collins, CO.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Gunnar & Pearl Lindstrom; sister-in-law, Alice Rogus; brother-in-law, George Cochran; and niece, Karen Flores.
