JoAnn Steer

JoAnn Steer, 71, of Audubon, MN, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017, in her home.

JoAnn Kay Lee was born on July 29, 1946, in Ada, MN, to Grant and Verona (Berg) Lee. She was raised in rural Perley, MN, graduating from Borup High School in 1964. On October 24, 1970, JoAnn was united in marriage to William Carl Steer in Euclid, MN.

The young couple made their home in Angus, MN, where they raised three children, Barbara, Michael, and Scott. JoAnn was a capable homemaker and she was a member of Angus-Tabor Presbyterian Church for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Warren and the VFW in Crookston. Billy died on March 17, 1982, and JoAnn would later move to Audubon to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She had a deep undying love for her family and enjoyed sharing her love of music with them. Whether it was watching Barbara venture into the music industry in Nashville, challenging Michael in music trivia, or attending concerts with Scott, her bond with her children always meant so much to her.

JoAnn had a passion for collecting things: namely angels (she had a staggering number of them), spoons, and cookie jars. She was equally passionate about the Pittsburgh Steelers, acquiring all manner of clothing and memorabilia over the years, not because she liked football but because they had nice uniform colors.

Even after she moved away, she always considered Angus “Home” and cherished the years she had there. Though her passing is shock, she has now been reunited with Bill, her body being laid to rest next to his. She is Home.

JoAnn is survived by her children, Barbara (David) Milhem-Field of Nashville, TN, Michael (Kelli) Steer of Barnesville, MN, and Scott (Tanya Karlberg-Steer) Steer of Hawley, MN; grandchildren Kaiti Hilliard, Tyanna Hilliard, Jamison Karlberg-Steer, Brooke Starkweather, Alexis Karlberg-Steer, Nathaniel Peroni, Lane Steer, David Peroni, Adam Milhem, Logan Milhem, Hayden Steer, and Emma Steer; great-grandchildren, Kordell, Teaan, Wyatt, AnnaLynn, Bethany, Piper, and Aydin; siblings, Janice Torgerson, Joyce (Duane) Magsam, and Richard (Karen) Lee; and many other relatives.

In addition to her husband, Billy, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Lee; grandson, Mathew; brothers-in-law, Darrell Torgerson Sr. and Daniel Amiot; and parents-in-law, Charles and Ione Steer.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at 3:00 PM, in Angus -Tabor Presbyterian Church, Angus, MN.

Visitation: Tuesday, October 10, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM, in Angus-Tabor Church; and one hour before the funeral service.

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren, MN.
