Marie Ann Sedgeman

Marie Sedgeman, 92, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016, in North Valley Health Center, Warren, MN, with her husband and family at her side. Bill would pass away four days later, after 68 years of marriage.

Marie Ann Aarni was born on August 20, 1924, in Buhl, MN, to Peter and Anna (Lukkarila) Aarni. She grew up on the Iron Range, in Chisholm, MN, where she graduated from high school in 1942. After graduation, she worked in Cloquet, MN, where she managed the office of the local Draft Board. After the war, she moved closer to home and worked as an accounting clerk for Oliver Iron Mining Co. out of Hibbing, MN.

On August 8, 1948, Marie was united in marriage to William Campbell Sedgeman, and the couple made their home in Gilbert. The couple had two sons, William and David, and Marie stayed home to raise them. They moved to several different area towns over the years for Bill's job, including Ironton, Hoyt Lakes, and Aurora, MN. They were longtime members of the Aurora United Methodist Church.

In 2005, Marie and Bill moved to Warren, MN, to live closer to their son, and became active members in the Warren community, attending the Grace United Methodist Church. Marie was an exceptional knitter, a wonderful baker, and took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren.

The Sedgeman's were a great example of Christian marriage and were truly best friends. Bill was the treasurer for the St. Louis County Council on Aging even after they moved away, and Marie always went with him to keep him company on the long drive north: they loved spending time together. When her health began to fail, Bill was determined to take care of Marie in their home; he succeeded, outliving her just long enough to make her funeral arrangements.

Bill and Marie are survived by their sons, William P. (Carol) Sedgeman of Warren, and David A. (Karen) Sedgeman of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren, Peter, Joel (Noreen), Adam (Krista), and Kara Sedgeman; and one great-grandchild on the way.

Funeral Service for Bill & Marie: Saturday, November 26, 2016, at 11:00 AM, in the Evangelical Covenant Church of Warren (MN); with visitation one hour prior.
Interment: Gilbert (MN) Cemetery, in the Spring of 2017.
