They lived in Warren, Minnesota until 1947 when they purchased a house in Alvarado where they spent all their married life. Ed worked several jobs until he was employed at the Great Northern Railway, he preceded her in death on September 19, 1983. Helen was very involved in the Lutheran Church in Alvarado.

Later in life Helen moved to Windham, Maine and stayed with her daughter Cheryl and her husband Larry and eventually was put into Seaside Healthcare in Portland, Maine where she remained until her passing. Cheryl Ann Huff preceded her in death in 2012.
