Dr. Andrew Riley, 81, of Stephen, MN, passed away on Sunday morning, February 12, 2017 surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Andrew was born on November 6, 1935 in Great Falls, Montana to William and Elvira (Nyland) Riley. He was educated at Stephen Public School where he graduated in 1953. He served in the United States Navy until 1956. After returning from the Navy, Andrew attended the University of Minnesota Dental School, graduating in 1962. He then worked as a dentist in Echo, Eveleth, Warren and Stephen, Minnesota before retiring in 2004. Andrew married Carol Kostrzewski on November 27, 1981 at Assumption Church in Florian, Minnesota. They lived in Stephen, Minnesota and raised their family there.
Andrew’s greatest enjoyment was time spent with his grandchildren. He was an avid reader, loved cheering for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, and was known for his storytelling.
Blessed to have shared in his life are his wife Carol, Stephen; children, A.J. (Cathy), Greenwood, IN; Daniel, Stephen, MN; and Jana (Nathan) Kraulik, Karlstad, MN; grandchildren; Colby, Chase, Julia, Cameron & Alana Riley, Caleb, Noah, Nora, Corban and baby Kraulik; his brother, John Riley, Estero, Florida; and his sister, Ellen Riley, San Antonio, Texas.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents William and Elvira Riley and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Evald and Dolores Kostrzewski.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cystinosis Research Foundation.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen, MN.
Visitation: After 6:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
Interment: Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Florian, MN
