Bernice Grandstrand

Bernice Grandstrand, 95, formerly of Viking, MN, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, in White Pine Senior Living in Fridley, MN.

Bernice Edelle was born on August 2, 1921, in Viking Township, MN, to Malcolm and Gerda (Sustad) Tangquist. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Viking, graduating from high school in Newfolden, MN. On June 14, 1941, Bernice was united in marriage to Alvin Grandstrand, and they made their home in Viking, where they raised their three sons.

In addition to being a wonderful homemaker (or Domestic Engineer), Bernice was very active in her church, the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aide, and the Zion quilting group. She loved to garden and had a special place in her heart for irises and gladiolas. She would plant these wherever she found the space, then use them to adorn her church for services. Bernice was also an accomplished pianist and vocalist and readily shared her love of music with her family and community. Several years ago, Bernice moved from Viking to Fridley to be nearer to her family.

She will be remembered by all that knew her for gentle disposition and her loving heart.

Bernice is survived by her loving sons, Winslow (Diane) of St. Paul, MN, and Wesley (Jeanine) Grandstrand of Fridley, MN; grandson, Kirk (Jackie) Grandstrand of Edina, MN; three granddaughters, Chelsey Grandstrand of Blaine, MN, Erin Grandstrand of Minneapolis, MN, and Allis Grandstrand of Fridley; great-granddaughter, Grace Grandstrand; and great-grandson, Charlie Grandstrand.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Alvin; and son, Gaylord, who passed away in February of 2015.

Visitation: Thursday, October 13, 2016, from 5-7:00 PM, in DuBore Funeral Home Chapel, Warren, MN; and one hour prior to services at the church.

Funeral Service: Friday, October 14, at 10:30 AM, in Zion Lutheran Church, Viking, MN.

Interment: Viking Cemetery.
